SONOMA SKYPARK NEWS MARCH 2015 AIRPORT HAPPENINGS - Mike Harris’s wife, Dawne Harris, flew West February 17. Dawne and Mike were very active at both Sonoma Valley airports until poor health kept Dawne at home in recent years. She was tenderly cared for by Mike, Judith their daughter and dear friends. Friends gathered at a Memorial Mass on Saturday, February 21st. RIP Dawne. Skypark pilot Dave Casella recently purchased a DH Chipmunk in Hayward and brought it back to Skypark. Fifteen years ago John Thomason owned this very same Chipmunk and it is good to see it...

SONOMA SKYPARK NEWS FEBRUARY 2015 AIRPORT HAPPENINGS- This newsletter is going to be short and sweet to get it out quick before the big rain storm this weekend. Actually Rafe Tomset, Frank Russo and I are off to Flabob Airport in Riverside, CA early tomorrow morning to attend the weekend annual meeting of the American Aviation Historical Society. Flabob hangars always have interesting projects in them and the West Coast Stinson Club is hosting a Fly-in on the same weekend. Weather in the 70’s down there and rain anticipated here so we won’t be missed at Burgers or Young Eagles....

On January 12 SkyPark lost a major spark plug when “Jeanne Williams” suddenly passed away. Jeanne and her deceased husband Jim had been part of Sonoma SkyPark, Inc. since its beginning in 1986. HAPPY NEW YEAR !!! It was a beautiful day to start the new flying year. I flew over the hill to Petaluma for the PAPA chili lunch and to be entertained watching one of the largest reciprocating round aircraft engines run statically. AIRPORT HAPPENINGS- the Thanksgiving weekend weather was spectacularly warm and clear. I hope some of you aviators were able to give a few valley rides to your out of town guests. I could almost see the Sierra’s from 4,000 ft. over Sonoma Mountain on Friday noon. Young Eagles was well attended Sunday, Nov 10th. Twenty nine young people were given valley rides in ideal conditions. I personally gave three young people their first ride and that is really gratifying. AIRPORT HAPPENINGS- Yesterdays rain showers cleared the skies for a beautiful sunny October first. Tom Palmer is the first takeoff this morning in the Palmer’s J-3 Cub. Jasmine VillaSenor has returned to Skypark working in the office on Tuesday and Wednesday and we are happy to have her back. Jorge Oros is still working for the airport, but working around his Santa Rosa Jr. College schedule. He and Curtis Presten have taken over the cooking duties in the clubhouse on Saturday’s at noon. HAPPY NEW YEAR, I wish all of you a healthy and fulfilling year ahead. To get things started in an aeronautical manner on New Year’s Day, the Petaluma Area Pilots Association (PAPA) is hosting a chili & corn bread lunch.
