Sonoma Skypark News June 2015

JUNE 2015

Family Fun Day is this Saturday June 13th, 11:00am to 3:00pm. Yayoi West is heading up Skypark’s Family Fun Day this year with guidance from Jeanette Woods and Nelleke Cooper. We are still looking for raffle and silent auction items.  Please bring your contributions to the airport office.  Phone Yayoi West (707) 364-9257 or the airport office (707) 996-2100.  Friday, June 12th at 4:00pm we need volunteers to help set up the airport.  This is always a fun work party, young and old are welcome!

AIRPORT HAPPENINGS-  May was a busy month at Skypark.  On May 3rd our own Tom Palmer celebrated his 29th birthday in his new hangar with his family, girlfriend, and friends.  Tom is the first second-generation Skypark pilot to own a hangar and planes here. We wish Tom many more happy occasions at the airport.

The monthly EAA Chapter 1268 dinner meeting was well attended on the 12th.

Thirteen Young Eagle rides were given on Mother’s Day, May 10th, by EAA Chapter 1268 member pilots.

From May 21st to May 25th the EAA’s 1929 Ford Tri-Motor passenger plane was giving rides at Napa County Airport. Skypark’s EAA Chapter 1268 pilots assisted the Napa chapter with ground support duties and young eagle flights on Saturday.

Sonoma Skypark Aviators were once again asked to fly over the 57th annual Sonoma Valley joint Memorial Day Observance.  Six pilots and their planes flew in two “vee” formations at the conclusion of the ceremony. Rafe Tomsett, coordinated the timing from the ceremony by radio. Pilots Dave Casella, Eric Presten, Trevor Meeks, David Meeks, Peter Gauthier, and I accompanied by pilot Yayoi West flew overhead the Sonoma Veterans Memorial Park.

Curtis Presten graduated from Hanna Boys School Friday May 29th. Curtis worked at Skypark for almost two years. He soloed in a glider on his fourteenth birthday and an airplane on his sixteenth birthday. He can be seen most days this summer working at Oil Changers on Highway 12. Curtis will be attending Santa Rosa Junior College in the fall. Congratulations to Curtis, we are proud of you!

Jack Strehl – I just received word from Doug Roberts, (707-344-5152) Jack Strehl’s conservator, that Jack is home and not mobile. He enjoys visitors! It is best if you phone ahead to Tiko (707-623-5757) to make sure Jack is up to a visit. Tiko feels that late morning or early afternoon, right after lunch, would be a good time.
